Little Blue

I sat with the ocean today,
I did not speak,
my words failed me,
I did not speak,
But she sang to me.

“Come sit on my shore,
little blue soul
Tell me your stories,
tell me your fears,
Tell me how far
you have come, my dear
Tell me what’s ailed you
all of these years.”

I sat and I stared.
Unable to speak.
I’d hide all my feelings,
I’d turn my cheek.

She reached out her arms,
caressed me ever so gently.
She continued her song,
I listened intently.

“Many have come
to my shores, little blue
Many have cried
and screamed,
But they have all
made it through.

Some, like you, sit, and silently weep.
I’ll take all your tears and wash them away,
The salt that is in them is not yours to keep”

Confused, I moved back, What do you mean?
You cannot take it from me!
I said in disgust.
I started to leave,
but she pulled me back
with a thrust.

“The salt needs to leave you, little blue soul.
It is too bitter; in your heart, it will leave a hole”

I chuckled. I shrugged.
What could I say
The ocean and her ancient wisdom,
Verses me and in my dismay.

I did not speak.
I held on to my salt.
She would not have my stories,
They were locked in a vault.

She did not falter, she did not weaken.
She listened to my silence.
She blinded my thoughts, like a lighthouse beacon.

Slowly, so slowly,
her song found its way into my veins.
She searched, she sang, she roared,
She found the salt,
released my chains.

Out the tears came, silent and angry.
Still she was there: warm, salty and sandy.

She took them away, into her ocean of blue.
I was left empty of anger.
The sadness remained.
“Little soul, she asked “what have you gained?”

Nothing. I sighed.
“Everything”, she replied.

“Pain teaches lessons we cannot see,
but anger keeps us from being free. Let go of the anger little, sweet soul.
Only then can you learn
Only then, can you grow”
